The genre has branched out in so many directions and they’re all pretty disparate - traditional bm to atmospheric cosmic black metal to blackgaze to folky nature black metal to lofi dsbm to angular technical black metal to orchestral to black ambient and dungeon synth, even trap metal has taken on the black metal aesthetic more than any genre and it’s become the most creative and thriving genre in metal (which nobody could have predicted in the early 90s) so I don’t think it can be killed or diluted down by a new branch shooting out
