Closer is New Order before New Order. I at the very least prefer the production value of Unknown Pleasures, even if some of the songs aren't as good as those in Closer. Both are masterpieces in any sense

"The first thoughts associated with Joy Division are an overrated album, a dead guy, depressing minimalist rock, and off key vocals"
- You're clueless because you weren't there. I was: I grew up in the NW of England in the late 70s / early 80s. If that's your opinion then you are truly lost.
This band changed everything: this album changed everything. "Closer" may have been - emotionally and technically - superior: but it came after Unknown Pleasures; and therefore its impact was lesser.
When this album was released, it was a sniper's bullet. Looking back from the perspective of the early 2000s, you probably can't see the revolution it caused. But its legacy is there for all to see.
I really don't care what your opinion is, to be honest. This is one of the most important albums ever released. The fact that you think it is rubbish only shows you up.
