Ima be honest: I love sputnik, but you gotta admit that the elitism on here can be really annoying sometimes. This album deserves way better than a 2.8 average. We all know that’s just because it’s BMTH, and due to their style evolving. Bummer.

This website has a userbase that on the whole has specific tastes. There is variation in all cases, but I think you can generally know what albums are gonna be well received on this website and which ones won't. I didn't expect this album to be well received on the whole, but it isn't because of "elitism." I used to think the same thing when I saw users shit talk bands/albums I loved. I grew up and stopped caring. I adore this record, but if most users on here don't, I get it and respect that that's their opinion. I also don't give a shit and listen to what I like, whether is't "cool" to or not. This isn't a hard concept imo.

Yeah you can tell that anything with Conor Oberst on it is going to be dickridden into the sun no matter how good it is too tbh

As self professed hipster indie trash, I see "indie darlings" a term of endearment, though I feel it was not meant as one in his context.

I'm not against the idea, as even some of Oberst's work is pretty alright, but I don't really think his work is good enough to get 5/5 reviews upon what seems like first listen, lmao.

I guess that depends on your rating criteria. I rate things based on how much I enjoy them more than anything. If a 5 is something that you think can only be obtained with time, then yes it's silly, but I give quite a few 5s every year, because it's based on my enjoyment of the albums. An album 20 years old or a few months old both have the same chance to be a 5 for me. If people feel a connor oberst album is worth a 5, well then it is to them at least.

Yeah I just feel like a 5 is something that has to be grown into personally, as if you're blown away on first listen you may end up missing key faults. I undid my 5 for Break My Fucking Sky's Eviscerate Soul (now a 4.5) because that was initial mindfuckery getting the best of me.
