I'll definitely check it out. The World Of Mercy was a bit different to this so we'll see what they do next.

"I’ll check, but they’ve got to work hard now to convince me."

You act as though this band has released garbage album after garbage album when they've been really creating great stuff up to this point. On top of that, you have a 3.5 on this so that's very confusing

It's because of the following reasons:

- For the foreseeable future, Dan Lancaster and Big Bass are producing.
- Kyo is on borrowed time, the years of abuse on his voice have caught up/catching up.
- The band are past their prime and they are pressured and/or want to continue to perform material which is primarily made for a live setting and more fun to perform, being a detriment to their songwriting as a result. It's been 20 years, on the heavier side of their music I can't see what else they could do which isn't a worse version of their previous material.

So despite one dip, it's likely to be an ongoing trend.

They need to bring it back to the Kisou era style.

Or, don't look backwards at all and go to more atmospheric pastures to progress on Arche's placement in the Dir canon.

How am I acting that way? I only say they have to work hard because of the massive drop off in quality between their Uro/DSS/Arche and this album had ultimately left me a bit disenheartened, and while hope springs eternal I’m not going to jump into anything new by them wholeheartedly and be like “this good; we good now.”

I jammed this last week, it has some decent tracks but goddamn is it a bloated tracklist

Uzumaki, maybe I mistook it that comment more harshly. It's hard for me to completely not be excited or write off a band when they've been pretty widely successful with each of their albums except for one mishit. Granted, this album is pretty meh imo but I'm still excited for anything they release but being excited and it actually being good is two different things.

Yeah, but it’s like calc has already said, it’s a pretty educated guess that they’re on the decline. You can’t pull out a trilogy of albums like they have and not have repercussions for trying to drag it on. This album isn’t terrible but it’s certainly a warning sign. I mean, hell, their last single hits everything it should but it still sounds off

And I’m also not saying because they’ve pulled out three timeless classics, they’re not entitled to carry on for the joy of it or anything, but there’s going to be consequences. At this point it just seems like the band are going through the motions and are repeating themselves, rather than doing it for the drive of pushing boundaries. Also doesn’t help that they keep hiring the wrong producers

@fear, no, you’re good; it was just odd to see that comment come from left field and it caught me off guard. I hope I didn’t come off as angry with my reply because that’s the last thing I’m trying to go for. I’m never going to write off DEG, but you kinda hit it on the head there with the second half of your last sentence, where you say being excited and being good are two different things.

excited for the new single tbh. been listening to a lot of Arche and ADORATIO recently.

I still can’t get over how good of a single Ranunculus was off of this lol. I don’t really listen to this record much, but that chorus slaps so fuckin hard

Yeah it clearly wasn’t the full song. It was like 1:50. If you don’t like TIW you probably won’t love it but it’s more melodic.
