If by their Black Parade, you mean an overwrought mess that capitalized on a trend started by one of the best selling albums of the decade while blatantly borrowing elements from a band whose commercial peak was 30 years before theirs, I can’t say there’s a comparable example for The Wonder Years

For a BP-like album, this band would have to really go out of their element and get more... theatrical, I guess? Queen, american idiot, and black parade had a grandiose arena/broadway-type audience in mind, which the wonder years have never been about. Personally i hope these guys dont ever try that, but i guess it would be interesting to listen to, at least if that happens.

I think it'd be a disaster. American Idiot isn't even all that great, but it's better than The Black Parade because it at least tries to be about something important rather than The Black Parade's really corny obsession with death imagery. The Wonder Years' lyrical content is too grounded and down-to-earth for them to ever take the rock opera style.

i think this album is significantly darker in imagery than their past releases, and utilizes a much denser production and guitar tone that leads to a bleaker atmosphere. also, if this album doesn't deal in death, idk if any ever will

that may be true, but this isnt a bombastic rock opera with grand ambitions, add in being far removed from their prior work and themes. The 'Black Parade' isnt the comparison/correlation I'd use here.
