I listened to this because I thought they were a sludge band, but actually happen to like blackened prog death better anyway... nice coincidence. The name works for the puns/theme, but not really the style.
Interesting dig Pyramid, I wonder what those guys sound like these days... I once stayed with them when frequenting a gig (they weren't playing said gig).

Yeah, band with that name and that theme screams sludge. Glad it's not though cuz this album slays.
As for Calla, I'd liken the new album to a mix between Sliver Mt. Zion and Radiohead. It's really damn good. Sadly it's gonna be their last album, they're breaking up real soon if they've not already.

From the stuff I've heard (and memory) they were a dark ambient/experimental post-rock sort of deal, so I can certainly imagine a sound akin to that comparison. That's a shame about them breaking up.

Thou who 4'd this should at least bump it to a 4.5, or meet the sluggish slime rage of Lord Gastropod (except for Demon, who's 4 its equivalent to a soft 5 these days). Lower raters will be decimated once they step Slimridden Kingdom.

I've been on an extended Doom kick. Always loved me some flaming skulls.

I had a lost soul av before this one, it was a more modern design than yours, so nice to see the old school sprites every now and again. Only shooter I really care about these days.

Same for the most part - I've been playing a whole bunch of WADS through with Brutal Doom. The community work for that game is second to maybe only Half Life 2's. 2016 one was great too.

Because of Sigil?

Nah, just because Doom 2 is probably the most tightly designed FPS of all time and still holds up better than nearly any other FPS out there. Sigil came out while the kick is on-going. Not actually got around to it yet.

I'm not actually a fan of Brutal Doom. I love slaughterwads though.

I just like the extra feedback it gives. It does take it up several notches, but I tend to just stick with the classic mode with the original guns etc. Throw in some smooth animations and you're good to go.

Dhoom > Doom

I find it absolutely hilarious that this is the top rated album of 2018. It's fairly deserving of the spot but it's funny to imagine people coming here to find the best albums of the year and getting slug-themed tech death.

Nice that it's still no.1, crazy amount of votes as well considering their earlier releases weren't exactly hyped to death on here... I suppose the same thing happened to both Rolo Tomassi (also deserving) and Daughters (not my thing) with their rapid rises to prominence.

Rolo Tomassi have been around a lot longer than Slugdge and are much more popular in general, so that's a bit less surprising. I saw a guy in a Slugdge shirt last year, so they're definitely getting somewhat more popular, but the jump from fewer than 200 ratings per album to over 500 is pretty dramatic.
Slugdge is the first band I can really say "I knew them before they were popular" about; I first heard Born of Slime back in about 2015.
