This is one of the few albums after 2016 that will make the list, since my time for exploration dramatically decreased. It’ll be near the top, which just goes to show how much of an impression it made.

I honestly struggle to remember much of the debut beside Magnolia, which is incredible and life-changing to hear live
It's funny to think how when I first heard this it was in a three-way race with Science Fiction and Black Mile for my AOTY, and now it's my AOTD

This is truly an superb release. Ever so slightly derivative of Springsteen/The National, but there's enough passion and energy that this piece is its own animal. 2017 was unreal in terms of releases, so this still falls behind Black Mile, Science Fiction, and Crack-Up. It's always tough to decide whether this or Melodrama is the fourth best of that year.

Oh damn ratings overhaul and still a heart on sleeve 4.5 for this boi? So this is what Nick Cave got demoted for :'[

Nah Nick Cave is still incredible. This dropped half a point for me too; its heights are immaculate but the tracklist is slightly bloated and inconsistent. It's almost perfect but not quite.

and no mwY 5s?! *pours one out*

I might have to change that. Untitled would probably be my choice, but even though it consistently floors me, I don't know if I connect with it the way I should for it to be a 5. If I 5 it, then that opens the door for Blushing, NFR!, etc - amazing albums that have yet to engrain themselves as "all-time favorites." For that reason, I just may have to leave mwY as a discography overflowing with 4's and 4.5's. Nothing wrong with that and, by my new scale, that still accurately portrays them as one of my favorite bands. For reference, Brand New now only has one classic album.

I've been cleaning out some of my 5s and 4.5s for the new decade and I've been pondering bumping Untitled down a spot too. Brother, Sister though, that will forever remain a classic.

I was big on these guys right when this came out, so the first time I saw them, it was in a club of like 100 people. Fucking amazing night. I was about 3 feet from the stage, was singing every word, and David pointed at me several times. Someone puked on the floor. Top concert night.
The second time they opened for the Foo Fighters in a huge arena. This was all in the span of 4 months.

can confirm, they are incredible live
I mean, I guess this is like The National in that there are baritone vocals singing well-read lyrics, but these guys have so much more energy and passion and sincerity than The National

^ I would agree with that. I saw the National live in Chicago this summer, and I was massively disappointed in the setlist (they played 12 songs off their shitty new album), and didn't have much stage presence. Matt made up for it in the end by going into the crowd during Terrible Love, and I was right next to him, my buddy sang into the microphone. But yeah, on the whole, Gang of Youths have way more energy.

I once saw them in a room of 100, then left halfway through and walked down the street to go see Arcane Roots. Was a weird night

Its the National crossed with the big anthems and wide romanticism of early Springsteen.
