Their biggest problem now is wearing their influences on their sleeves too much. Muse’s first 4, and even to an extent with The Resistance, sounded like Muse albums because they applied their influences to their own identity. Now they attempt to mimic their influences, and it comes off disingenuous. Matt needs to stop wanting to be Freddie, George Michael, etc and go back to being Matt Bellamy.



As I said before, I think this album was a step in the right direction even if it wasn’t consistent. At least it sounded like Muse wrote these songs and not a Queen cover band.
