Definitely has some post-punk/goth atmospheres, especially during parts with clean vox.

Yes exactly! I'll have to warm up to the vocals though, not really their strong suit imo

I jammed this on a walk through the woods the other day and it was perfect

I love John's vox but yeah they're not perfect at all lmao.

They are perfect for the music created to be honest. Taken on their own....yeah I agree haha.

I have high hopes for the next two, in my head canon they are the Oceanic and Panopticon of Atmospheric Black Metal/Folk Metal/Post Black Metal etc.

Wait....this is the first time you're hearing them? Man I wish I could do that again lol.

Also since Post Punk and DSBM seem to have some intersection, i also would go out on a limb and say this feels DSBM-lite in some moments

I wish I could listen to the Mantle for the first time all over again. What an experience.

Ashes is an all-timer. Their best imo. I think you’ll love the post-metal leanings @ sizeocean

Sounds good. I'll have to get to that before spring time, it won't feel right after that

This will always be my fav but you can't go wrong with the first 4, all classics. I love Serpent too but I'm in the minority there lol.

Can anyone else chip in on my supposed theory, that the next two albums are like the Oceanic/Panopticon of theirs?

What about this is considered bm though? I'd argue it's only the production

Its definitely more blackened folk metal but for sure has a bm atmosphere in the production and some of the riffage is rooted in bm for sure. But yeah, definitely more rooted in dark folk metal.

one of the dumbest internet conversations I've ever had was pushing this to be considered elk-influenced nature metal as a genre on last.fm in like 2008 lol

"pushing this to be considered elk-influenced nature metal"
