Hmmm, the version of the CD I have says "Deluxe Disc 1" on iTunes. My friend gave it to me so I don't know whether that means anything but is the Uroborous remaster that much better? Because this sounds hella slick.

The difference is night and day, I never listen to the orginial because the production is kinda butts whilst on the remaster it's great. Here's the full remaster on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lESRgXMTzl4

It's not "night and day" at all, but it's significant enough to keep it as your main version.

It's my first time hearing it and I definitely see what you mean by the changes being significant enough to keep it as my main version. Too bad I can't get a CD of it anywhere . The only song I don't like on here is Bugaboo Respira. Hydra 666 is fine enough. Might be the weakest track but it still holds up better than the weakest track on here imo.

CDJapan has the normal edition for sale if the info is accurate. http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/product/SFCD-98
There are some used copies on discogs too.
As a side note, the first press remaster is one of their rarest CD's, actually (I do own it, though...).

That's so sick, I'm actually envious. I have a digital copy of the normal edition but I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for the remaster. How'd you manage to grab a copy?

Funny, looking at the remaster's review page, Calc said he never understood the hype for this band but is now one of their biggest champs. It looks like you're where I was about a year ago ~ only able to jam Uro and now I'm feeling pretty good about Arche, DSS, The Unraveling, and Gauze.

Hydra is great, it's just dwarfed by the surrounding quality of it. I love the verses and the climatic bridge after the second chorus, the inclusions grow on you but it is the weakest part of the album. The first press of Uroboros Remastered is lovely, recommend getting it if you can find it like me and Evo have. This band didn't click at all until Arche came out, that was the first Dir album which I really liked and what converted me. By the sounds of it you're at the stage I was before I watched the lives, so you should really focus on those next if you haven't watched any in full yet.

I've watched Arche, Uro, and DSS lives which is what got me into DSS. Arche and Uro instantly clicked but DSS took its time to grow on me. I'm actually giving Kisou a listen right now and I'm not hating it. It's a lot weirder and not my usual thing but I can stomach it a lot more now than before. OH I forgot to add that I do like a lot of Withering and Marrow too. Tons of bangers on those albums. It's only the 2000-2003 stretch I'm not crazy about.

By "I've watched Arche, Uro, and DSS lives" you mean the Budokan shows? Yeah the more of a fan you get to be with Dir the more you like Withering, such a great album for memories and nostalgia. As for the next lives to watch, I really recommend watching: Tour In Situ-Rasa, Tour 08 and Blitz 5 Days. The first because it's Kyo's best vocal performance overall in his career, the 2nd for (in my opinion) being Marrow songs at their peak overall (plus their rawest) and the 3rd since it'll make the 2000-2003 stretch you don't like so much better.

Yes the Budokan shows! But I've also seen a bunch of their live performances where they songs from most of their albums. I wish I liked or even knew about Diru when Withering came out. I hadn't even heard Obscure until this year, let alone The Final. Now Merciless Cult is one of my fav songs to gym to. I'm actually trying to learn how to sing/scream because of Kyo, the guy's a madman. Okay I'll def check all of those out! The one thing I've noticed about Diru is that it's the metal parts that turn me off. All the more alt rock stuff (i.e. 24ko Cylinder) I enjoy upon first listen.

I've knew them since 2009 but it took the end of 2014 for me to start my proper 'journey' as it were. Hopefully you'll take better care of yourself than Kyo does :P

@xi
DSS was my first one, had me very impressed from the start and only loved it more over time. Considering it's their least accessible, it probably made the rest of the journey easier, although for a few years I stuck mostly to the 2008+ era and just random older songs from the Decade compilations.
Regarding the first press, I happened to find an used copy with obi on auction with a decent starting price; I had to fight against a few people, while the price kept growing, haha, which was a bit terrifying, but worth it for the collection.

That's crazy though, I'm really glad you were able to snag a copy of the record. It sounds incredible even over YT which is saying something haha. DSS is way more accessible imo than the 2000-2003 stretch. Maybe its just me but there are so many things to like. It's definitely a grower but I at least understood why everyone else did unlike the middle stretch. There are good songs here and there but its fairly inconsistent. That being said I'm not minding Vulgar so far. Much easier to get into than Kisou.

WAIT CALC you didn't tell me the Mode of Uroboros show's rendition of Ware is so GOOD. WTF

DSS isn't more accessible, Macabre-Kisou are just not good in studio lol. As for Vulgar I need to jam to live to love it, I hate the production on the studio version (Mode Vulgar is brilliant). Yeah the whole Mode Uroboros show is superb. Ones especally of note were Doukoku, Vinushka, Ideal and Glass Skin.

Yeah those were all great but this was the only live Ware performance that really did the song justice imo. And I dunno, that might be it but at the same time I feel like DSS is a bit more Western friendly than the 2000-03 stretch. It has more deathcore/traditional metal influences as opposed to the wacky Japanese Rock/Visual Kei stuff that the earlier stuff is built on. Just my two cents though.

Out of the 3 yeah I think Mode Ware is the best one, the Uroboros Budokan and the Mode show together really did the album justice. DSS is more western friendly in that respect yeah, so many people just don't get the appeal of their eariler stuff at alll.
