I'm not saying your review is bad I'm just saying you're leaning too much on this bizarre notion that you must be the "right person" and not just "any listener" to like this record. That's like saying the only people who can enjoy a painting are those who look at it long enough or those who are versed in fine art.

Thinking it implies anything and isn't just a description of my experience with the album is a bit ridiculous. The album took a lot of time to connect with me and I used the review to explain why it took so long and also why I eventually warmed up to it. People can not like this for a wide variety of reasons, however, I do believe that writing it off too quickly is one of them (and the fact that many people have been saying this has grown on them a lot supports that).

I of all people understand that this band takes a lot of commitment sometimes. It took me YEARS to realize just how good The Mantle was. I've given this a year and a half as well and dozens of listens, and nothing has changed.

The Mantle never had to grow on me. I heard it once, and I immediately fell in love with it. It's been the one album which I'm always in the right mood for.

The first 6 tracks here are phenomenal. However the last 3 take a pretty sharp nosedive, which is probably why it leaves a bad taste in people's mouths.

More like saying : if you only glance at the painting you won't be able to appreciate the fine details and thus won't be getting the full picture or the right impression. If you give it a chance and still don't like it that's fine and I don't see how I ever implied it wasn't.
You took more than a glance and you didn't like it, that's opinions at work and all that jazz. All I do in my review is give my opinion on the album. Any further implications you get is on you man.

Astral Dialogue still rips, though. Was a great live track.

So let's say someone listened to this and loved it on first listen, does that mean they don't have the right impression or can't possibly appreciate the fine details? I think that's kind of BS because people can pick up on very minute details on their first, second, or third listen.

The album is really dense and I think anyone would be hard pressed to get the full impression on first listen. However, if they love it, chances are they'll keep listening to it and get to know the album better over time and will have a chance to get that full impression. Someone who doesn't like it on first listen is more likely to write it off without giving it the chance it deserves.

This is majorly growing on me, and becoming one of my favorite releases of 2014. It won't ever top their first four for me though.

even Plateau???

I at least like everything on here. Plateau is great and the album closer is the best of the Musk Ox interludes, though overall I prefer the first half of this to the second half.
