"but those of us who have a long enough attention span know this sound is better and sounds more natural and fluid for them."

lol neige openly admitted he was far too influenced by outside sources rather than letting things come naturally to him on this album, this claim is utterly fallacious

Noc do you by chance have a link to where he says that? I might want to pull that quote if I end up reviewing Kodama

I like this quote:

" I think Shelter was a transition album. The album we are working on at the moment is even more special. The metalheads, they are crying now, but for the next one, they will cry much more. So yeah. Be prepared (laughs). For some blasphemy. You know, I am kidding with this “metalheads.” We don’t want to lose metalheads, because we were metalheads, and my drummer, he still loves metal and we know it’s the best audience, it’s the best rock audience ever, because these guys are very loyal and they really support the bands, and they really are into music, so yeah. We don’t want to despise this audience. It’s really the best one. We are just very conscious about the fact that we are going to lose a lot of fans, but that’s life."

Bear in mind the quote is from February 2014. I just like the metalheads bit.

Guess it came out worse than I expected. Wasn't trying to be condescending. But I just kinda hoped for a continuation of this album. Seems like he went back to his blackgaze sounds because this was pretty polarized

Maybe he went back because Shelter 2.0 would have been boring to him? Who knows?

he said that he wanted to do something more punchy because the last album was too gentle, i think shelter was more of a wayside experiment than a permanent transition (which i'm happy about), but i wouldn't be surprised to see alcest re-explore more gentle territory in the future
