I wish Atrocity Exhibition could be the album that everyone says it is, but I'm just not feeling it. There's some outstanding stuff on there, but as a whole it's just a pretty good album. Nothing exceptional.
Also I might be the only person who thinks 'Really Doe' brings it down a notch. It's an awesome posse cut, but doesn't work in the context of what the album is meant to be saying.

Agreed completely

I can understand saying Really Doe doesnt fit perfectly on AE in terms of its message. However, I wouldn't say it takes it down a notch, if anything I find it a nice breakup track and I find the placement of the songs on AE in general thoughtfully placed.

On paper it should be a masterpiece but he's retreading his best work. Even ain't it funny gets old fast. There's nothing that keeps me coming back like DNA or 30

I think it's because AE lacks the all-out desperation of XXX. On AE, his continued hedonism and borderline self-harm instead merely become a disappointment.

on xxx the beats and the delivery hit you hard whereas ae has a more airy, subtle quality to it, best seen on the opener and "tell me what i don't know" (ofc you still have some songs like "ain't it funny" which are almost gimmicky). i probably prefer xxx, it certainly has better highs but the reserved character of ae is interesting too and imo creates a more "consistent" album overall

I definitely think AE is overall more consistent and more focused imo but I do agree the highs on xxx are definitely higher than on AE. I disagree that it lacks the desperation, if anything I'd say overall AE focuses on that desperation and has an overall distressed tone. I think lyrically on xxx some of the lyrics are almost funny with how ridiculous they get whereas on AE I don't think I every really found myself chuckling. That's just my thoughts though.

Agreed also.
BTW I went straight from XXX to Atrocity Exhibition, sleeping on Old.
How is it? I don't see it mentioned much.

Eh. It's worth hearing but doesn't compare to the stuff on XXX or AE imo.

It's basically Danny's most accessible album imo. I dig Side A (Old), 25 bucks, The Return, Red 2 Go, Side B (Dope Song), Dip, Smokin' and Drinkin' and Kush Coma. I guess you could also say its his turn up album (at least the second half).

on a side note if you haven't heard ODB check it out, thats one of my favorite tracks he's ever done. It didn't make it onto Old but its an awesome track.

If you don't check Old you're missing out. Probably his most accessible yeah.

First half of old is great and then it dips considerably in the latter half
