not particularly, no. but that they can both be considered under the umbrella of tech death speaks to the genre having more breadth than it often gets credit for.

I love ISIS and Neurosis but I always thought Cult of Luna was really boring. But then I have a hard time getting into most post-metal, it has to be stellar to keep my attention.

It took me a while to get into Isis. I thought they were boring at first. Didn't have that problem with Cult of Luna.
