A 3.5 feels wrong, but man... this feels as a step backwards from Leprosy. Leprosy destroys both SBG and SH, though SH is an improvement lyrically. Also, Human is leagues above SH which probably hurts the album too. I'm confused af :/

it's not really a 'step backwards,' it's just a transitional album. a pretty clear stepping stone between leprosy and human

yeah I guess I never saw it as a transitional record... makes more sense to see it as such as opposed to putting it under the shadow of human. truth be told, I haven't listened to this or sbg nearly as much as I have listened to all their other records... but that will change now lol

@Deschutes- agreed hard, I'm the only one in my friend group who prefers this. It just riffs so hard.

Human is defs better than this but this is classic in its own way.
Imo they never really rose above their peers until human. The leap between the oft lauded Leprosy and that masterpiece is massive.

Consider this in context. What else in DM came out in 1990 that was better than this?
Nocturnus, Deicide, Carnage? Not much comes close to this.
