Album rules tbh
Anders' singing is better on here than people give credit for, and the pure melodeath tracks are gold.

I haven't jammed this in so long. Probably one of my favorites of theirs. Dead End always hit hard especially with those female vox

3.5 feels like a just rating, too much of the album feels samey and doesn't stand out.
Take This Life, Reflect The Storm, Crawl Through Knives, Vacuum, Versus Terminus and Come Clarity are all great songs tho

I feel it has lots of memorable riffs and the blend of harsh/clean vocals on here are just right for me. I think this album just gives me tons of nostalgia though considering this is one of those albums I listened to constantly when I got into the metal genre.
Looking back, I think the only song that had to grow on me was Your Bedtime Story Is Scaring Everyone.

If they stuck to this more accessible sound or Clayman's direction, they would've really had a great legacy to their name.

Agreed. While I enjoyed some of Sense Of Purpose and Sounds Of A Playground Fading, it really wasn't a great direction. Would've been amazing to see them bring their roots back in too.

Yea they really took a turn for the worse when they released Siren Charms. That was the first album of theirs that I truly disliked. I thought they had reached the bottom with that record but then they released Battles and boy does it ever suck. Worse than Siren Charms.
And I've never been very critical of post-Clayman In Flames; sure they weren't as good as the first five albums they released, but they were all pretty good imo (CC being one of the best). That was until they released Siren Charms.

When I first heard In Flames, I had only listened to Clayman and forward so I never was one of the people saying they suck because they don't play the old shit. Granted the older material is good but I liked where they were when I got into them, this album probably being my favorite of theirs besides Soundtrack To Your Escape. If they kept this style and fused with how they sounded on Whoracle, I'm sure they've would've kept their fanbase. It also doesn't help that they lost Jasper.

Mainly because he got frustrated by the direction himself. It put his strengths to the sidelines.
