Most of the acoustic guitars' playing and some of the singing are played to make that impression and display some kind of "uh, looke at me I play with slightly detuned instruments" atitude...
Most notably in tracks like:
headless horseman
the mansion
I'll not contain you
I felt my size
The fact is, I like this, but I feel that sometimes it tries to be somethings that its not.
This album isn't dark. It isn't mysterious nor sad. Don't let some of its more abrasive tracks decieve you.
This album is simple. it's sweet. It's melancholic. When it embraces those things it's when it is at it's most developed and relatable.
