Yeah the drumming on this is just incredible. I never considered the drums in Opeth to be outstanding, but here, Axenrot is capable of so much. He blends jazz and prog to fit perfectly the overall context of the album. I think Heritage is probably the album that had the most significant influence on my drumming, and I still consider it my second favorite Opeth album (because Still Life rules)

Yeah I think I like all other Opeth albums better, but this might be my favorite one of theirs in terms of drumming, the change in style completely freed the rhythm instruments to step up their game big time

Yeah Folklore is such a masterpiece. To me, it's a top 5 Opeth song, really. I don't get how this album is "lame and disjointed" (as one of the reviews' summary says), I actually think it is one of their most consistent and constantly captivating albums. I understand the reasons why some may dislike it, but to me the most important element in Opeth's music is so not the stylistic boundaries. Opeth has their own musical universe, and Heritage, despite its differences with the rest, is definitely part of it.

People that're butthurt that they got rid of their progressive death metal sound and the fact that this album is meandering and boring to people who aren't fans of this album's progressive/avant-garde rock style

Which is fine but they don't need to be such winers and bitch to everyone about how bad they think the album is, because it really isn't. In fact the songwriting is just like their other albums in a lot of ways, especially structurally

Agreed Oni.

Oddly enough, some time ago I would've been more on the opposing

side. But that was back when I didn't know what albums were

about.

I've learned one thing though: no matter what position you take,

someone will always disagree. Fact of life.

Took over a year for me to appreciate this album, but once I opened my mind to it I grew to love it with their other albums. It's definitely hard to get into, but if you accept it its really rewarding musically
