Why are we still talking about Brand New? Jesse Lacey's actions were disgusting, and it's tainted their music, no matter how good it is.
I don't get why some people think it's okay to ignore allegations against band members if it's a band they like, yet they are the first to call for a witch hunt when it's a band they don't like/know.

oh my god. one band member did shitty things 15 years ago so now we're supposed to never speak of this band ever again? lmao. David Bowie fucked 13 year olds but that hasn't seemed to taint his reputation at all.

@sowing glad you agree! been stuck in my head for the past 24 hours. I still wish they had gone the route of "official" release, pay what you want, all proceeds go to XYZ charity, etc.
Still, it's kind of surreal that we actually got a new BN song in 2018.

it's the song "Lazy" that Brian Lane wrote for Daisy. Not exactly new BN but I'm pleasantly surprised we got to hear it at all

The person who leaked it said it was actually pre-TDAG

Where can I hear it? I had no idea it existed

It's on youtube and the subreddit. It's titled "Simple Man" as that's what the file was called.

I have no expectations for the band to make a comeback but I'd love to see them dump all their demos/b-sides for charity. Allegedly they still have 50+ unreleased tracks from the TDAG/Daisy era...if they wanted to go out on a high note they could do something like that.
Hopefully they leak more songs (or do what I said above), but considering that their mantra for the last several years (even prior to the misconduct) was Brand New: 2000-2018 (or, "stay 18 forever"), I'm assuming they're finished and that this one song was their way of saying goodbye (all the evidence, along with what I've read within various dedicated online communities, suggests it was leaked by either Brian Lane [drums] or producer Mike Sapone). I don't believe it to be a coincidence that they anonymously put it out there mere hours before 2019, which marks the conclusion of their self-determined shelf life.

So gutted I never got to see them live

I kind of agree on the self-leaking thing, although the guy straight up said he wasn't Brian. I'm guessing Mike or some other close friend/associate.

Another thing I've been reading - however unlikely - is Jesse's wife. She apparently posted something on social media about how amazing her husband's unreleased songs were and then a few weeks later this dropped.
None of it really matters, obviously, it's just cool to have a new song.

Correction: not any member of the band, according to the account that leaked the song

Heard the Andrea theory too. I think that might be reaching a little

Speaking of Andrea, I just heard this too today for the first time:

Hard to believe that's existed for so long and completely flown under my radar. It's a Jesse/Andrea duet cover of John Prine's "In Spite of Ourselves".

In Spite of Ourselves has been out for years ... I can't believe you just heard it haha. Thats actually what got me into John Prine.
