quote me some of his "best" lyrics so i can laugh at them please. seriously about 85% of his lyrics are laughably terrible and i love him to death

1. thats the worst song on the album

2. John Wayne Gacy's lyrics are brilliant, and the first half of the record contains some of the most detailed stories i've ever heard sung through a persons mouth

I'll admit that at face value a lot of his lyrics read like kiddie nonsense. His meter and delivery have a way of inflating the impact of relatively simple lines.

It's like he makes simple statements and somehow imbues them with all the emotional weight of actual events with that angelic cooing of his.

thus making his vocal delivery a standout (which i agree with) and not his lyrics

You've converted me Anthracks, the lyrics seem a hell of a lot more meaningful when I'm singing along. I just sat down and looked at some of my favorites on paper and wasn't particularly impressed.

I still consider everything Illinois on genius.

1) ctts is around a 4.5 which is the same rating that i have this at. i dont go and compulsively change my rating every time my opinion changes. that said, ctts lyrics are way better than sufjan's because they at least attempt to be profound

2) this was a legitimate '5' months ago

3) lyrics dont make or break music

idc that much about lyrics, but I don't think they necessarily have to be complex to be meaningful or good. "Brevity is the soul of wit" and such.

So what makes lyrics objectively terrible?
