It lacks the kind of energy that previous releases had but still is excellent for what it is; a mainstream heavy metal album.

But what's the point of listening to this album when there is ride the lightning, And justice for all,

etc in existence?

As facupm said, it's different. It has a very strong vocal performance by Hetfield (maybe his best) and a few excellent songs. I'm not saying that it's better than their previous releases but it's really good provided that you don't expect to hear a thrash metal album.

To add one more reason to those of Manos's, the album has a STELLAR production.

"yeah but previous albums also had solid production"

I don't agree with this point of view. Their first four, save maybe for KEA, had poor production.

Personally I don't feel like any of their albums up until St. Anger had poor production but Black Album's production is impeccable. Regarding KEA, the production suits the overall attitude of the album.

I'm going to bump this up tonight. Jammed this for the first time in forever at the gym today and forgot how much fun the 2nd half of this is. Struggle Within is a killer track.

"Of Wolf and Man" is pretty good. As are "Enter Sandman", "The Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters".

Album has some nice cuts but overall it just doesn't work well as a whole imo.

AFJA is inches better than this.

Through the never is sweet. Album is excellent, but compared to 80's metallica is a notorious letdown. Anyways, I hate bob rock.

And yet it's one of the best-selling albums of the 90's. Oh, the irony...

It's an excellent album which saved our asses in the 90s imo. It might not be as good as their previous albums but it's got some great stuff.
