Mandatory monthly glazing of this masterpiece, Granite Wall is very aptly titled

It's the bass that gives this one the edge over Realm and IVth

Whole thing sounds pretty organic, with the tightness coming from the band's experience rather than production magic. Karl's roar sounds genuine, not a spooky monster voice.

So consistently strong are the songcraft and performances here that a lack of personal connection may well be the only thing holding this back from a 5

This is deffo their tightest album and the first I'd recommend to someone who's unfamiliar with death metal. The reason it's not my favorite is because it plays it a bit too safe, but touches like the melodic and triumphant riffs make it a cool final sendoff.

Realm and IVth are fairly close - the former because I love what the grind influence does for the intensity and song structures, and the latter because of the riffs and variety

A blinder it is indeed. "Entrenched" and "Salvo" are probably my least favorites and even they're 4/5 songs.
Yeah, if I can build the emotional connection, I'll probably be joining you in 5'ing this Pooter. Nothing flashy about this album, just world-class death metal.

Album rules hard indeed! Gonna have to do a listening shootout between this and IVth to see which one lands as my favorite.

Anyone who hasn't heard A Symbol of Eight is missing out. I kinda admire the restraint of keeping it off the album, but also... it should have been on the album lol.
