Toby Driver cited this album as one of his big influences for maudlin of the Well in an old interview too.

Mudvayne is not and has never been a nu-metal band. They are a progressive metal band.
That's an excellent argument. Progressive my ass, this is not nevermore, dream theater, opeth or symphony x, mudvayne is more complex than other nu metal bands like disturbed or godsmack but still it has visible nu metal elements. Specially in this record

Pjorn is nothing if not dictionally economic. Honestly I find him hard to argue with. He's saying it with such conviction, plus Mudvayne were highly influenced by acts such as Camel and Genesis. They've said as much in interviews.

The hip hop, hardcore and grunge elements are more present in this work than the prog elements, maybe they have here some polyrhytms in served and pharmaecopia but still the influence of their contemporaries like slipknot or mushroomhead is strong as fuck. Besides none of the nu metal bands like to be labeled as nu metal, even korn hated that label
|
| |
SinkTrap Look, this is *my* music, alright? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvLVryFm-EA Progressive metal. I write progressive rock/progressive metal music. I know what I'm talking about. Mudvayne is progressive metal, not nu-metal.

Linkin Park is nu-metal. And their music is fine. Mudvayne's musical output is in the progressive metal style, because that's what you call a mixture of progressive rock and metal. The first couple of Mudvayne LPs take from death metal/black metal/thrash metal and the rest are mostly thrash influence. Overall style, progressive metal.
Pjorn you are on shrooms, maybe they have that influence but this whole record is closer to the sound of bands crossbreed, slipknot, amen, sevendust, mushroomhead, spineshank and more than the sound of prog metal bands, the fact that they are more complex than their contemporaries doesn't mean they are prog. If the main subgenre of Internal Primates Forever is prog metal and not nu metal you haven't listened a lot of prog metal
|
| |
Now please remove "nu-metal" from the Mudvayne page, it's objectively wrong. Mudvayne is a progressive metal band. The nu-metal genre was added because of TROLL VOTING. They were never a nu-metal band.

Lol, seriously, this is the only website were I found people that thinks that old mudvayne isn't nu metal. Dude this is funny as shit, if they are so proggy ? Why they choose to tour with slipknot, cold, static x, nottingface, sevendust or LP rathen than playing with dream theater, agalloch, symphony X, pain of salvation, fates warning and queensryche ? Besides the murky bass, the lack of guitar solos, the vocals influenced by grunge, hardcore, groove metal and hip hop are present and the drums share more elements with groove metal, alt metal from the 90s and funk than prog metal . MUDVAYNE IS NU METAL NOT PROG METAL

I know they are more black metal than anything, but they are more prog than mudvayne that's for sure

There's no reason to shout lets all calm down.
Some of us think that Mudvayne is a progressive metal band
and some of us incorrectly think Mudvayne is a nu-metal band
|
| |
Agalloch are a nu metal band why would you say they're prog?
