Wish this album was more consistent. Like it has so much potential esp it's context in history but songs like The Tourist and Exit Music and No Surprises really aren't that great imo. Album is more of a 4 but I give it that extra .5 cause it's such an important thing in music and history in general. Then there's songs like Let Down and Paranoid Android and Climbing Up the Walls that show just how fucking good the whole thing coulda been

Don't get me wrong it's still an incredible album hence the 4 to 4.5 but its one of those things that has potential to be near perfect but just isnt and that really sucks. Like an amazing dinner ruined by a glaze of sauce you can't stand.

I see what you mean. I find every song and moment on here was put together nicely, and it all fits

Exit Music, Tourist and No Surprises are three of the best.
Electioneering or Climbing Up the Walls you could argue are a bit more ill-fitting/weaker but those three... :/

No Surprises couldn't really go for 'spectacular' because y'know it's freaking No Surprises, one of the saddest/grimmest pretty ditties ever penned

Climbing still hasn't clicked for me but it definitely isn't weak.

Climbing Up the Walls is their soundtrack to peeling off and wearing someone's face, it's their serial killer song...strange choice of favourite. The last 30 seconds of the song are immense though

I think No Surprises is more effective at what it aims for than Climbing and Yorke's vox and lyrics are classic on that one ('my final belly ache' sob). This site loves the moody heavily layered Radiohead best though so you're in good company.

Karma Police got me into Radiohead, so I have a bit of bias towards it.

No Surprises>Climbing
Not that Climbing isn't a great song, i've just always loved No Surprises.

Overall my favourite part of the album and often the only bit I listen to frequently nowadays is the run of tracks 1-5 which are just incredible in their flow...then you hit Karma Police and decide if you want to carry on listening, Karma is a great tune but the album never captures that opening flow again so you have to be in the mood for a very focused listen after that
