dave is so good on this, kind of wonder why this is the only album he went this high pitched

I actually kind of dig his vocal style. At times, it is almost like he is snarling.

Sounds like ass on the remaster though. I like pissed off So Far So Good version of Dave. Ala Hook in Mouth.

I don’t mind the remaster but I think that’s because it’s the version I heard first all those years ago… but ya og is for sure better.
Nice bump, haven’t jammed deth since the “last” record dropped, haven’t jammed good deth since before that lol

I've always liked this album but lately I've been really coming around to the hype. Part of it is because of the vocals tbh – I get that they're divisive, but to me they suit the music and lyrics like a glove.
EDIT: I hit "submit" and I see the first comment on the page is praise for the vocals, hell yeah m/
EDIT 2: Album is conducive to repeated listens, too – the title track transitions so smoothly into "Holy Wars"

out of all the albums to complain about how Dave sings, this is the worst one to do that with. his vocal performance is easily his best ever on this un

dave has had plenty of eras of his voice. i do love his high pitched whine here. but also love the pissed off snarl on so far so good so what, the megadave theatricality of countdown, the more controlled high pitched snarl of youthansia, even his later era low toned growl.
but i think his actual vocal peak is on cryptic writings in particular, and even risk. sounds legit like a good singer. absolutely crushes fun radio tunes like she wolf and trust.

But of course this was a 5 all along.
The question now, is, where to next from here? Peace Sells feels like the obvious one, but Endgame has been on my radar ever since I joined Sput, having arrived here the year it dropped and seen the hype it accrued then. Cryptic Writings could be the black sheep, your comment piqued my interest @Futures

Go for Peace Sells, Endgame has two legit great songs and that’s it, always found it to be super overrated. I have to agree that Cryptic Writings is peak Megadave vocals, and its just such a fun album in general.

just go by order of release to better appreciate the evolution of their sound and style

alright buddy

Looks like it'll be Peace Sells from the ones I mentioned, though honestly I might jam So Far next and just go backwards through the first 4.
Taking a stab at ranking/rating tracks, though I could probably get behind any one of them being someone's favorite:
5.0: Tornado of Souls > Holy Wars > Rust in Peace > Five Magics > Hangar 18
4.5: Take No Prisoners = Poison Was the Cure
4.0: Lucretia
3.5: Dawn Patrol
Absurdly consistent record, "Lucretia" is more like a 4.2 and even "Dawn Patrol" is cool as shit in its own way. This plateaued as an "it's overrated but I still love it" for at least three or four years; in a week's time, it went from that to "this is at least top 50, maybe top 40 ever". Sometimes it's less of a growing process and more like a switch flipping.
Side remark, what the hell was in the water to make 1990 such a standout year for metal? Megadeth, Primus, Slayer, Entombed, Bathory, Demolition Hammer, Death, Judas Priest, Jane's Addiction if you count them, undoubtedly more I haven't heard...

some of the mid 80s are crazy insane
82: black metal, hear nothing see nothing say nothing, troops of tomorrow, city baby attacked by rats, milo goes to college, bad brains, death penalty, walk among us, generic flipper, wild in the streets, the record, the number of the breast, screaming for vengeance, mercyful fate
83: show no mercy, satanic rites, melissa, kill em all, triumph of death, court in the act, piece of mind, out of step, crystal logic, suicidal tendencies, heavy metal maniac
84: dont break the oath, powerslave, sentence of death, WASP, ride the lightning, morbid tales, in the sign of evil, 1984, defenders of the faith, king of the dead, bathory, my war
85: the return, to mega therion, behind the realms of madness, kimb, more beer, seven churches, bonded by blood, infernal overkill

the more i go back and listen to classics of all metal genres, the more i realize metal peaked lol. i have become boomer. they did it the best the first time!
not that there isn't great metal still being released today, the classics just have that aura to them.

hell yea dude ever heard of this band Black Sabbath, no ones done it better
| | | Album Rating: 4.8
I can't disagree with that!

eh it's more like old dm is better, old bm is better, old thrash is better (obv)
just realizing all my favorites are older now and that i'm more drawn to those now. amazing how the birth of each genre basically peaked instantly. also part of this is realizing i missed out listening to the classics growing up and instead listened to all modern stuff.
| | | Album Rating: 4.5
I think DM is going through a renaissance currently but hard agree when it comes to heavy metal and thrash. Black metal I'm undecided
| | | Album Rating: 5.0 | Sound Off
the more extreme metals feel like they keep trying to push boundaries (though there's no lack of those staying tried and true), while like thrash, power, and especially heavy keep spinning the same wheels
