The new album is incredible. Somehow, they pulled it off. I don't even know why I doubted them.

"can i get a m/ for Neptune my ambient interlude BOI"
m/ m/ really , really nice interlude, just finished it.
"can take the shot to say its going to hit Dew grandly."
5 tracks in, easily the best thing they've ever done for me lol

I don't like his screams at the end of villains lol. why can't he use his normal screams there? kind of disappointed actually with that song. i like the other songs though. its a 4 out 5 album perhaps. In no universe is infinite granite better than sunbather.

In mine it surely is ;)

Anyway, closed the day with Primordial Arcana and Infinite Granite. I want to do both right away, but need some sleep. Oops pressed play...

that stereogum review everyone was talking about makes it sound like it's some earth-shattering blackgaze behemoth, so i was a bit underwhelmed to say the least. It's good but it's by no means the best they've ever done. The harmonized guitars did sound new for them tho and kind of reminiscent of what Panopticon likes doing, so there was that.

I'd say it's my favorite from them and rest the case.
Never got into their brand of blackgaze and I think leaning into this side of the 'gaze suits them better. Great melodies all around and George's singing is on point. Sweet album.

the screams and repeated refrain of "owns you OWNS YOU" at the last ~30 secs of "Great Mass of Color" is still one of the most chilling moments of the album for me.
