Is this the best hard rock album, as far as the late 70's to early 90's go?
Hmm...

if it's late 70's to early 90's, I'd say Highway to Hell >
|

For me, Appetite > Highway.
|

I included the late 70's because VH's debut came out in
'78, and early 90's because glam was still around by that
time. I mean, Skid Row's sophomore came out in 1991,
if I'm not mistaken.

Oh yeah, if you add Van Halen's debut to that conversation, it gets a bit harder to decide. Appetite definitely beats Slave to the Grind and even Skid Row's self titled, which are both excellent anyway. But, between Appetite and Van Halen it's harder to choose a favorite.

It's very very close. Both iconic albums, extremely consistent, lots of fun and energy.
edit: was referring to Appetite and Highway to Hell

Highway to Hell is WAY more monotonous

I really can't decide between Appetite and Van Halen. I prefer both over Highway, though.

"Highway to Hell is WAY more monotonous"
Never thought about that really. I mean it's no Deep Purple but it's got faster tracks, more bluesy/midtempo ones, can't say that is too monotonous for my liking. You got a point though, Appetite has more variety but there's also variety on a Lenny Kravitz album. Highway to Hell just grasps me from the very first second and doesn't let go.

Somewhere in Time is better than any of those three albums, if I'm being honest.
