4.1 is extraordinarily high and what goes up must come down, wasn't it at 4.5 at one point? Reminds me of Shadows of Intent's early going (whatever it was called) where it had a ludicrous average and then settled in at a much lower (yet still somehow unfathomably high) average

it's just a general trend on all these aggregate sites. 4.1 is high relatively, but to say the best album of the year is 8.2/10 is a bit silly. not saying i desire any change, just observing a trend.

my AOTY literally IS a 8.2/10 - well until I've made a couple of updates, which I may or may not do
but yes, I'm probably an outlier
I can't speak for other sites, but Sput has always seemed kinder on averages than some (like RYM), so it doesn't appear 'low' for an overall average / consensus to me

notagenius still @ing me itt god damnit
I enjoyed all Counterparts until NLTL and then after that album, I went back to their older shit and was pretty much like "nope", except for Prophets

it probably has nothing to do with the fact that the rise of music streaming as made music so discardable and listening to a new album is rarely a special experience anymore

there's undoubtedly some potential legitimacy to that theory Anthracks, but I would also say that because music is now so accessible, people are likely to hear things that they wouldn't have otherwise considered, in an attempt to broaden their horizons etc. The result of this is the higher likelihood that many listeners simply don't like what they're hearing.

lol yeah, you could certainly make that argument too

This is my first exposure to the band and while it’s pretty solid it made me realize that what sput considers “good metalcore” is completely arbitrary
|
| |
I have no idea how to feel about this band. I am going to try Nothing Left to Love and then reattempt to listen to this with new perspective so I give it a fair shake.

Pangea > ratings > 'ctrl + f' Converge 1/2 'All We Love...' 2/2 'Bloodmoon'

yeah, it certainly shouldn't be one of only 2 rated Converge albums in anyone's repertoire anyway

my novicity doesn't change the fact that the etid album was overhyped!

lol I know, just playing Pang
we already had a (semi-lengthy) 'debate' about ETID and I do not wish to revisit

fair enough i was taking the piss anyway
def need to dive deeper into converge & botch. pretty sure i have heard jane doe as well but never rated

Probably is me, but I just can't get into this album. I found myself enjoying Nothing Left to Love way more, the two standouts for me were Cherished and Imprints. It feels like this album doubles down on the things I found grating on Nothing Left to Love.

whether one prefers NLTL or this one I can understand both. NLTL has more restraint, its sculpting of the emotional atmosphere is like Restraint - Explosion - Restraint. this one is essentially unrestrained, blast from the top to the end (even including soft songs). NLTL's emotional carving is more nuanced I will say, this one's is more bold and generous.
edit: The restraint/explosion I feel is not about being heavy or not, but about the emotional energy the band throws in, which is always full on the new album.
