Does anyone else struggle with the darkness of this album? I love the music and the vocals and lyrics are very cool, but damn if it's not one of the most disturbing pieces of art I've ever witnessed... that becomes, to a degree, I guess, mainstream.
Same reason I can't do Jenny Death by Death Grips too much - fundamentally ugly subject matter, expressed so well it makes me curious to witness it, but not enough to put in regular musical rotation, except for On GP. Similarly, Tropical Beaches, Inc. is the only one I can really do on repeat.

@laterenima the social and economic circumstances have become mainstream. everybody knows about the despair, the pain
.. and btw. my AOTY as a monument of our time .. from punk in my youth to this .. many people might have thought the gap is massive here, turns out it was not

Why is one of the simplest and most effective protest songs I've ever heard

I used to work as a social worker who primarily worked with people who were homeless. Why is great because it's not preachy but it grabs you by the neck and forces you to reckon with the concept of not having anywhere to stay. Every elected official who makes housing less accessible or decreases funding for housing programs should have to listen to it on repeat forever.

Yes. I struggle with it almost half of the time I listen to it. It’s magnified for me because Chat Pile and I live in the same city and I see exactly what they refer to in much of their music. Sometimes, I have to turn this album off because it gets too dark for me or I get too sad because of the topicality.
Regardless, this album is one of my favorites from 2022.

It really hits so fucking hard.
“We have the resources
We have the means.”
It’s incredible that such a simple premise can hit so hard. Why might really be my song of my the year.

Why should be mandatory listening for everyone
Like literally everyone. There’s an abandoned house next to me and people in the neighborhood are calling the cops weekly. Who fuckin cares? Let them squat, no skin off my ass.

Listened to that interview and man! The guitarist's strongest influences are XTC, Failure and Cave In, my three favourite bands from the past few years. No wonder this album leaves me emotionally conflicted - I'm gonna get close to 5'ing this.
