I guess that points toward how strong I think all of their other choices have ever been? It’s still a solid track to hear, but feels like it could be “something else” and possibly more effective.
I’ve never felt that with them before - even if I didn’t like the choice on previous records, it was clear that they went all in on wanting it to be just that… which usually results in an amount of respect that can end up changing my mind lol

Still an incredible record, some of their best songs ever tbh

Gave this a spin and removed Below and the closer from the queue. 5 territory like that for me. Below is super distracting, totally breaks up the flow. The transition from Mirrors to Kaleidescope works perfectly, try it.

I just think Armies is too good to not end on.

"feels like it could be “something else” and possibly more effective."
That I very much agree with. I was expecting something all-clean, like its intro. Would have split the album nicely through the middle into two parts.
But perhaps it wouldn't have worked anyway. Love it regardless.

Ok this isn't even competing with Nothing anymore.
This is VERY solidly my #3 after a week of listening. It's probably staying there though because there is also no universe where I will end up liking this more than Catch and obZen since those are like my absolute favorite albums ever.
Nothing is still very solidly #4, though.
After that, their discog is still better than the rest of music but the placements get a bit more flexible for me (sometimes im in a Chaosphere mood, other times I'm in a Koloss mood, etc)

I'm pretty much on the same page as you Lucca, this is probably my #3 after ObZen and C33

I love both Koloss and VSoR, but this album takes all the great elements of the previous 2 and utilizes them masterfully here

I just can't believe how good all of this is and still keeps their core sound without it getting tiring. The pacing is great, can't really think of a song I would remove entirely but maybe this would benefit from being like ten minutes shorter?

Dude, totally agree. This is by far the best of their newer era.
I love Koloss, but some of it seems to be just a "best of" of their prior work rather than pushing forward.
Violent Sleep has some of my favorite highlights in their entire career (Specifically Clockworks, Stifled, and the latter half of By The Ton) but there are several songs that I end up skipping on that record.
This shit is just straight up perfect to me

I lied Chaosphere is very solidly 5
Ok top 5 Shug are very solidly in their place, CC is obviously last
DEI, Koloss and Violent Sleep are interchangeable depending on my mood

I think Ligature Marks is one of my least favorites here, not much happening, the start is good but that's about it, and the ending is way too bland

I skip MonstroCity sometimes but def VSoR is strong for the most part

Yeah it's really good.
Wouldn't rank it all the way up there yet but it's comfy in the middle of their discog for me.
