For sure Dewinged, only since 2019 did I really begin digging for new stuff. A few YouTube channels, a blogspot or two, Bandcamp and Spotify basically means 10 new releases a day, and that's just the stuff I follow. It's absolutely insane how much music exists, not considering the hundreds of small bands on the myriad of labels that always still pass under the radar.

Yeah man, for someone with a bit of OCD like me it's hard to keep up with everything, that's why I keep a system in place and I force myself to choose 2 or 3 releases per week to focus on, otherwise it's just obscene...

"2020 was packed, 2021 is packed, every year is packed..."
Simply not true, this year has been nowhere near as packed as 2020 or 2019

2020>>>>2021>2019
last two are in a similar field, but this yr has had a couple of good months. none of the three can compete with any of the peak 10s yrs

this sounds like a 'you' problem babe. assuming 4.9's count.

think i have like five 4.3+s from the three combined and zero 5s lol
2019 had a couple of saving graces and a bizarrely great run of alt-idol albums but it was also the year FI and NFR dropped in the same month, which cements its case as the worst year of the 21st century so far and hopefully forever

I'm trying my best though
First four months of this year were abysmal setting aside a handful of records
That dick piercing album still gunning for worst album of the year strong

There is certainly a vast quantity of music released each year. But in any given year, I would only like a very tiny fraction of it (considerably less than 1%).
Of course, there's no doubt that there's more music that I would like than I actually end up discovering. So it's possible that, were I have access to all the undiscovered albums that I would like, I would rank the years differently than I in fact do. But I suspect that the extra effort required to discover all those extra albums would not be worth the trade off. At least, not for me personally.

So you could translate the claim that 2021 has been a better year for albums for me as the claim that my typical search methods have produced better results for me in 2021 than in 2020.
Edit: that was a bad page break.
