The lyrics to EYEWTKAS were directed at individuals, not a group. Not everything is fucking political. What exactly is everybody's definition of misogyny, anyway? To me there's a huge difference between saying something like "all women are whores" and saying "my ex girlfriend who fucked my best friend is a whore". I don't think it's misogynistic to point out that some women do indeed act like whores, because check it out, they fucking do. The lyrics to EYEWTKAS, whether or not you think they're particularly well-written, are about Daryl's personal experience with a person who portrayed herself as a whore to him. It's not some grand sweeping statement about all women. It's not political.

I don't know who's more misogynistic, Daryl for writing EYEWTKAS or all the pussies in here calling him misogynistic for calling a whore a whore, as if no woman would ever have the emotional fortitude to own up to her own actions and needs to be babied by men.

uh I wouldn’t call someone misogynistic for feeling uncomfortable with the lines “I only beat you when I'm drunk, you're only pretty when you're crying”

He said the exact same thing, verbatim, in the EYEWTKAS thread.

It's not meant to be taken literally, or even as something he himself said. I believe that even in the officially sanctioned lyrics that particular line is in quotations, to suggest Daryl was quoting somebody other than himself. He has said in the past that the song is a bit of a send up on the popular rock star mentality, which if you place the line in that context it makes sense. Not to mention the guy was pretty famously straight edge at the time, even referencing it in some lyrics in EYEWTKAS. Hard to believe he'd write a line about himself imbibing alcohol and hitting somebody.

So in your world should we avoid anything that sounds uncouth simply because some people are too lazy to think and put things in a proper context, or what?

Alt."

Not an alt, just been lurking around for a while and finally felt the need to say something. I felt it was necessary to say it in both threads, because it's relevant in both threads.

regardless of context its understandable why someone WOULD be uncomfortable with that kinda stuff

and thats coming from someone who isn’t btw but like you cant flat out say someone is misogynistic for not wanting to listen to lovebites and razorlines because they dont wanna hear someone say “suck on the end of this dick that cums lead”

Fair enough, I can’t disagree that people might feel that way. Where we might disagree, however, is whether or not it’s worthy to validate that point of view given the context the author intended the lyrics to be taken in.

It feels like, and keep in mind I’m not saying is like, people are trying to draw some narrative around the record that since some of the lyrical content could be construed as misogynistic anybody who enjoys it are as well misogynistic. I don’t think that’s fair, and it’s kind of a cheap shot in my opinion. It’s just intellectually lazy.

That’s all I’ll say about it. You’re all 2 cents richer.

honestly though, i think the lyrics on silence are a little over the top.

however, Daryl says those lyrics with one of the best vocal performances of all time.

silence is their worst release (besides shit like kiss kiss bang bang that is) but that has nothing to do with lyrics as much as the songwriting generally feeling more amateurish and thrown together compared to everything after it imo.

Well, it ain't Shakespeare, but I still enjoy it, and I love women simultaneously. I got it all! Also, I'm of the opinion some of their best musical compositions are on that record. It's probably the rawest thing they had put out up until MC, but I like that about it.

the lyrics could be total gibberish on silence and the performance would still be good because that's what matters the most. it's just like how a majority of the lyrics included in Converge inserts are after thoughts written after recording.

yea, that's really my point. the vocal performance makes that album, not the lyrics.
