I've never really "got" Glassjaw, they were always simply okay to me and not much more, should try again perhaps
NPI is maybe my 4th / 5th fave Unwound, lol (still v good mind)

also dunno if it's just nostalgia (as I said) but TAOM still sounds monumental to me, probably is to an extent but...
I'm allowed one irrational memory-fuelled love after dropping the likes of this, Jane Doe, Kid A etc. down to 4.5s in recent-ish times!

My biggest post hc confession is I still haven't listened to Open Mouth in full

Will admit that TAOM has absolutely zero benefit of nostalgia to me, didn't get to that one until a couple of years ago and even then, I respected it as a broadly creative achievement more than I was that impressed by any given moment as a genre high. Will give it some more attention, but most of its appeal is oddball flair
also can I take a moment to thank everyone for passing on Refused for this lofty, lofty summit on genre greats

I like Refused well enough... but same, always thought TSOPTC was way overrated.

This is completely fair and addresses what I was saying about it being broadly creative. I love it for said creativity and how experimental it is within the genre, so I overlook the bloat (and nostalgia plays a role) in my 5 rating. I'd say it has noticeable highlights though, and some weren't obvious to me right away, like Ten Seconds In La, which I now think is the best track.

Refused are cool but overrated (3)
I always expect TAOM to wear off and it never does. My fave tracks have shifted a lot over the years and the “messiness” always ends up making complete sense. Idk the benefit of time has actually helped it because of the context of what followed imo. Post hxc bands doing ‘wacky’ shit and their haymakers failing to land consistent blows

Maybe I wouldn't like TAOM as much if I heard it for the first time today, but in hs, Lycanthropy kind of blew my mind, which isn't hard to fathom considering the most adventurous thing I was listening to at the time was Billy Talent or MCR (Kill The Switch by CTTS was a similarly "holy fucking shit wow" moment for me). That prompted me to hear the full album, but it took a while for me to actually find a copy of the thing (fkn limewire + local music stores not carrying it). Even back then I thought it was a jumbled mess but somehow it flowed so well, which is partly due to the editing. I love how some tracks are sequenced, like High As A Horse transitions into Dog Sized Bird.

Yeah, the sequencing is boss. Hang on, when you were looking? That’s a shame if so. I know the vinyl is elusive / expensive but no clue regarding the CD as I got in there pretty quickly (so presuming it was easy to grab in the earlier days)
Arcarsenal is one of their peak moments, so you go dad 👍🏻

"Arcarsenal" is definitely one of my favourite tracks ever. Blew me the fuck away when I first heard it (still does).
