The back half of Vapor Trails is the shit....some of their best material ever.

Vapor Trails is excellent, so many excellent, varied songs and really creative guitar work, like in "Nocturne." So glad the remixed version exists b/c the production on the original is pretty bad.

Remix sounds too overproduced to me.

Agreed Titan, the rawness of VT should be a safe bet for him especially songs like One Little Victory

"I'd recommend Vapor Trails and CA for the Manoster!!!"

Finally checked Clockwork Angels and enjoyed it. Need to give it more listens though. Haven't checked Vapor Trails yet because once again, after Clockwork Angels I jammed A Farewell to Kings and Fly by Night. Will get there though for sure lol.

My biggest issue with Vapor Trails is the production, yes. It is loudness war at its finest and that's make me despise it

The remixed version is "better" but I still feel it doesn't bring anything truly interesting for Rush wether it is on technique, originality or emotion

Vapor Trails made S&A and CA possible, those three embody their modern prog rock sound.

The mid 70s was classic hard rock with prog beginning to happen in FbN & the following ones, then amazing ambitious prog, then each 80s album leaned more and more toward synthy new wave prog, then mainstream hard rock with proggy elements flirting with the synth sound, their weakest era (but still great ofc).

Counterparts is their most similar to Vapor Trails and probably their strongest after HyF and before VT, S&A, & CA.

I listen to the original mix when VT gets the call

One of the best songs in that album and it is like a 3.3

Vapor Trails does rule, but it is still low on the Rush scale

Probably somewhere in the middle for me, which means everything and nothing since it's Rush. I should properly spin it soon, I have a feel it's going to be a blast because I've been craving some of its songs for a while

I might be prefering synth-era Rush nowadays

Their highlights (2112's t/t or Villa Strangiato, for example) are still on their classic era. But the synth albums seem to be way more consistent for me

They're more jammable imo, even tho their classic era is much of their best material (1976 - '84 albums). I know this extends beyond the synth era you referred to, but I love marathoning their albums from Power Windows - Test for Echo, given that I'm listening to remastered HyF and Presto.

One Little Victory brings back memories. I recall that song was in the NFS Hot Pursuit 2 soundtrack

I guess their eras run into each other, b/c I'm pretty sure Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are considered classic Rush along with the late 70s albums, but all their 80s releases except for maybe Presto have a lot of emphasis on synths.

Presto SACD all the way, plays on a regular CD player too.

@Soccer/Necro/FiveLeavesLeft (I think? I was a baby Sputniker): thanks I'll tell the person I stole it from that you dig it ahah
