The thing with Red, I think, was it became 'ok' for everyone to like Taylor Swift. Whereas dudes wouldn't talk about liking a song like Mean or Teardrops on my Guitar, they'll talk about I Knew You Were Trouble because there's dubstep and she's not explicitly weepy or using female pronouns (getting caught singing 'she's cheer captain and I'm on the bleachers' was so embarrassing)

so basically, more non-personal aspects to the lyrics, not to mention a definitively more mainstream sound.

hmm maybe, but it sounds fairly bad (vocally) compared to the recorded version. and I looked up some live videos and it sounds pretty much the same, but without the crowd of 12-year old girls singing along.
I like most of the songs there because she tends to expand upon them, though the live rendition of enchanted is much much worse than the recorded one. and I don't care for any of the covers either.
