Just doesn't work for me bar like a total of 15 minutes of this. The build ups don't feel gratifying although i'm pretty much alone with this opinion.

Actually, this review pretty much sums up my feelings for this: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/63593/Godspeed-You%21-Black-Emperor-Lift-Your-Skinny-Fists-Like-Antennas-to-Heaven/

They're some of the best I've heard, what's not gratifying about them for you?

Well, a great example is static, where the build in the first place doesn't interest me so i'm anxious for the climax and it just passes by and i just think 'was that it...?'

Exceptions are like the second half of sleep, which is a beaut but yeah, I feel like stuff like Mladic achieved the build up so much better

Definite flaws on this but the highs on this are glorious. Yanqui, this and Asunder are all similar in the way of they're all pretty awesome albums that do different things very well and others ways they lack.

This lacks nothing for me. Yea its pretentious but it lives up to it. One of the greatest post rock compositions of all time.

It is good but it's too arsey.

infinity is possibly even more up its own arse but it has a tad more magic to it.

"i don't see what this is lacking"

Meandering in their build ups is the main thing and having climaxes that are not forfilling, especially in Sleep which in my eyes is easily the worst song here.

That one was more subtle musically and it's concept was more obvious, but I prefer how this is more direct musically and it's story is up to you. I fucking love it.

And Slow Riot wins everything and did both ;). I really like that point actually, a big reason to why I didn't like this much for a while.

Slow Riot leaves my jaw dropping for the entire duration, not one instant of meandering or wasted time on it. So concise, and the perfect mix between concept, atmosphere and pure power.
