Who described them as if Breaking Benjamin listened to Opeth? Always makes me laugh.

I hear it

And I love it

Unless you'd prefer to stick with Breaking Ben if they were severely deprived of dopamine

Nah I'd give that kind of Eldrich abomination type distinction to Lunarterial by Swallowed

This is more like

Sad line cook who smells like stale cigarettes tryna gas himself in his Honda kinds vibes

I think the connections are there but definitely tenuous

They still have that same kinda sad Gothic autumnal energy but that's about it

this reminds me much more of the 00s Opeth experience than BMD, not at all in what it does on the heavier end (which is where the bulk of the radio-viable association sits) but in the morose aesthetic and several of the chord progressions — you can tell our poor washup in his Honda has had Windowpane on repeat at some point

don't mean it in a disparaging way tbh, much this band is usually mid to terrible for me. might be the first solid record I've heard from them since BMD, but will need another couple of spins with it

This is the only Katatonia album wherein some sonic snippets are reminiscent of Opeth.

The guys from both bands are friends, and they had this custom where they would convene, open a bottle of wine, and listen to each others' new albums at that time.

I would argue that The Fall of Hearts has its share of Opeth influence as well. Especially in songs like Serac and Last Song Before the Fade

As I wrote in another Katatonia thread, I don't remember the album you mention, need to relisten.

Edit:

Listening to the first song of the album, and you are right Koris.
