" this is THE godfather of grunge records'

no... it really isn't. it was a breakout for alternative rock and grunge but it did not pioneer the genre/style/whatever at all. bleach is closer to being the godfather than this

i beg to differ Mr. Demi.....even to this day, when I think of grunge, I think of Nirvana's Nevermind.

Agreed about Bleach...this one brought it more to the mainstream but there's a lot about this that isn't very grungy at all

this is too refined and clean to be trve grunge IMO. like it still falls under that umbrella but compared to other stuff it just feels like mainstream rock with some grunge and punk sprinkled on it

I don't really know actually, now that I think about it. Pearl Jam's first album is my favorite grunge album, I don't really know what the grandfather of grunge album is, though.

don't think you can pinpoint one album as the "godfather". there will several bands that released albums that built towards the grunge scene (screaming trees, mudhoney, melvins, others)

people say Ten isnt grunge either. its more just hard rock.

grunge was a pretty stupid genre term anyway.

i mean theres definitely a certain grungy sound but the media and record companies overplayed it marketing wise

it's pretty much an umbrella term for a slew of punk and metal fueled alternative rock made by heroin addicts. that's how I see it anyways (well not so much the heroin part, though it rings true with several bands)

yea green river too

Demi, its between this and Ten. I can understand your perspective where you heard a lot of these records at the same time, which helps influence your decision. If it wasn't for those two aforementioned records, grunge would've suffered big time.

they were breakout albums for sure but the scene was gathering before those albums in the underground before they burst into the mainstream with this and Ten
