guy from Watershed is all right, though he kind of screwed up Porcelain Heart.

God dammit, it just sounds unconventional to those people who like everything to sound formulaic. Brilliant fills in 'Porcelain Heart'.

A friend at work got me into this (along with a lot of other bands). One of my favorite progressive music listens since King Crimson.

Nah Hawks, it takes a bit to get into Opeth. His exaggerations on the hype behind this album indicate that he's just starting to get into some real, meaty metal, but the point is, we were all like that at one point.

God, I make Opeth sound like a cult.

It really didn't take that long for me to get into Opeth tbh. The Grand Conjuration was the first Opeth song I ever heard and from then on I loved them.

You had the luxary of discovering this band when their sound became alot more accessible (ie. The Grand Conjuration contains some their most simplistic songwriting to date while retaining the original Opeth sound). Trying to pick apart Blackwater Park was very frustrating for me a few years back because of the albums tendencies to be pretty complicated, all the while trying to be a little more relaxed at the same time.

Wizard is completely correct though. I didn't get into Opeth for ages. Those who were caressed into loving Opeth instantly are freaks of nature.
