Yep!

I think Steven was trying to make the lyrics sound like they were written by a 15 year old, especially on that song.

[2], I get why people say the lyrics here are cringey but I think that criticism is kind of missing the point of what Wilson was going for.

If that's the point, it'd be a lot more convincing if his lyrics on other albums were stronger (Open Car, anyone?)

open car is uniquely cringey but i think it's pretty obvious the lyrics here are from a teenager's perspective

Yeah for sure, although some bits land better than others. Anaesthetize and Sleep Together get it across best, I think

and Sentimental. but i still dig how blunt and heavy-handed the lyrics on t/t are

Yeah never got the harsh criticism of his lyrics in general

Drums are the best part about this record. Not a fan of the anemic vocals and simplistic lyrics. Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth does a much better job in that regard.

Lame!

I think his vocals and the guitar/soundscapes are the best part

Lucky for me I don’t give a shit about lyrics. Music and vocals in FOABP and Open Car are top tier.

me neither for the most part, which is really saying something when something is so bad it can distract me from the music lol

If lyrics do start distracting me then it can be because the music just isn’t cutting it. Fair To Midland lyrics are saturated with cliches but the music is so damn catchy.
