The implication that they were doing anything unconventional on the prior three albums is hilarious. As far as harmonies in metal are concerned, Jesper is about as bog-standard and unimaginative as you can get.

"i mean they had a couple of songs with multiple bridges n shit"
That's hardly impressive by mid to late'80s/early '90s trad/power metal standards, let alone by the time
TJR came out. Especially when they never really got better melodically.

lol i don't think anyone ever tuned into this band for their song structures or for trad/power fixes
the point is that you hating on a verse/chorus metal album with ^safe^ melodies is a huge meme

Well, I kind of expect better from trad (which is what this is, Johnny) even if it's just verse/chorus. There are plenty of albums in that vein that have way more energy and melodies you can actually tell apart from song to song.

In flames just had solid as fuck songwriting on their early albums. Nothing groundbreaking. Just excellent fucking songwriting

"In flames just had solid as fuck songwriting on their early albums."
I think my problem with it, more than anything, is that it's so stiff and dry. Like, you occasionally have stuff like Moonshield/The Jester's Dance, Jester's Script Transfigured, Wayfaerer, etc. which have a kind of Skyclad-esque vibe to them that's sort of immersive but the rest is just mindnumbingly one-note.

the idea that cas is some elitist for not digging in flames is laughable, the guy hands out 5s to dream theater and rhapsody for gods sake! and not to mention there are more hooks on a queensryche record than any melodookie

i was actually gonna see amorphis last year cause they were doing talez but that tour got queefed. plus the opener, entombed AD, sadly no longer exists

New Amorphis was a bit underwhelming live. Everything felt way to overproduced with so many samples, it just felt like the band was playing along to a jam track.
