I felt the same way at first, but then realized I was listening to the 2004 remasters. I thought it was great but okay, THIS is the album with a 4.6??? so I checked the original mix out and theeennnn it all started to make sense. I still agree it's not the peak of thrash tho, still one of metal's best

I mean just listen to Holy Wars man lol, the rest of the album could be a steaming pile of dogshit and we’d still be singing its praises.
I think honestly if there is one big complaint with the record is that it peaks so early. Holy Wars is their best song and Hangar 18 is one of the best here too. I love tracks like Lucretia, Take No Prisoners, and Poison Was The Cure but they just don’t even compare. Tornado of Souls is really the only later-album cut that stands up with those first two imo.

Yeah holy wars is a super high note to start the album and it never really tops it. It's not bad at it it rules I just think there are a lot of better thrash albums and countless better albums if we're talking metal/extreme metal in general

you've always not liked mustaine's vocals though right? i love them especially on this. think that's the difference. like if you thought the vocals were really good it would push it up further right? songwriting, riffs and technicality are all pretty impeccable.
