with all the drama inside the band, I almost hope they take some time to get their shit figured out
would be such a shame to follow up this masterpiece with an identity crisis

Absolutely agreed. I dunno if I can pick a favorite between this and Koi.
It’s a damn shame, I really feel like the end is near for these guys.

For me, lightning struck 3 times for Deftones - White Pony, Diamond Eyes, and Ohms. Everything else they did is right in the solid 4 range, including KNY which I have a soft spot for. Honestly, if things fall apart for them I hope they can get together, have a candid conversation, and end things gracefully on their own terms. If I was inside the fold and knew things were over, I'd consider mastering any Eros material and releasing it as their curtain-call. Who knows though, this could be a bump in the road. Bands have come back from much worse.

Finally a message I can endorse
Also just release Eros, which will literally be SNW2. Have you heard "Smile" from Eros, Johnny?

‘yeah demon check out White Pony for sure‘
Oh I’ve heard that one, got it on CD in fact.
Called it Black Stallion for reasons unbeknown / quirkiness, probably because I have zero actual personality. I do like it, from memory.

honestly 2020 was the perfect time to finally drop eros... give the fans something they've been craving for a decade+ during what was one of the worst times of many people's lives
still have a lot of respect for them dropping this in the heart of the pandemic though when a lot of artists at their level were shelving their music for when live crowds would return

If they ever do it may be next year 10 years after Chi's passing (aka the anniversary of an uninteresting event...jk)
I'll definitely never listen to this album again, it's just so bland, even Gore puts it to shame - at least that has some memorable tracks like prayers/triangles and rubicon even if the production is worse than an early xasthur tape

the poster child for those 3.0s that I listened to a few times, thought were ok, and haven't felt the urge to listen to again

'Black Stallion is the remix album of White Pony, released 2 years ago.'
Damn, I didn't actually know that! haha
seems I may share Deftones's rather shitty sense of humour then

^ Haven't got around to hearing 'Black Stallion' through general lack of interest... a vast majority the time remixes of things I dig leave me cold. 'White Pony' is a masterpiece as it is, never too bothered in reinterpretations.

Has there ever been a rock/metal remix album or even track that's better than the original?
|

I'm flirting with blasphemy here, but I prefer Wilson's remaster of Deliverance by Opeth.
His Aqualung remix isn't bad either.
