17.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify atm, pretty sure it was at about 2 mil a few years ago
Was 14 million just a week or two ago. 2 million seems like a lot for a new album, but maybe it’s not. Either way, pretty fucking incredible.

"album could’ve done with more souvenir outro type shit"

It's easily the best of the last 3, but it can't touch their top-tier stuff imo.
I agree with this. It doesn’t touch white pony, self titled, around the fur.

ecdysis should've opened up to an angry fuckin tune after that bass line at the start

Damn, that took a turn.

I initially didn’t love the souvenir outro, now it turns an ok song into a very good song imo.
My mind is a mountain:9.5

Definitely of the opinion that the Souvenir outro is stapled in for musician's clout.

Yeah also feeling the closer as the weakest here. Maybe it will grow on me, but currently I'd prefer if the album just ended on Metal Dream 😅

Kind of crazy to me that people don't like departing the body as much and usually put it as one of the worst songs on the album. Lower than MMIAM for example, which is a fine track, but it's fairly conventional and not that inspired.
Departing is so much more atmospheric and just feels massive. Abe's performance is fantastic as well

In fact departing is probably top 3 or top 4 song here

I for sure slept on MMIAM at first since it felt most like a continuation of the Ohms sound, but I totally fell for the polyrhythmic swapping between the guitars and drums in the verses. Drums carry that song hard.

Not with those drawn out, boring af verses it isn't
Think I'm settled on a 4.0 with this for now. A very solid Deftones album but the songwriting is just a little too safe and samey to go higher than that. It's a very enjoyable album but then you play something like RatsRatsRats and you remember that at the same time the band is capable of more.

“fairly conventional and not that inspired.”
you’d be comparing it to their other material if you’re talking conventional. Which songs come to mind?

"17.1 million monthly listeners on Spotify atm, pretty sure it was at about 2 mil a few years ago"
idk if they were ever as low as 2mil but yeah its been a pretty steady climb over the past like 5 years. think they were in the 7mil range when ohms dropped.
kinda fun thought experiment but i saw deftones (and ghost!) open for a7x on the hail to the king tour and crazily enough... i'm like 70% sure deftones plays last if that bill were to happen in 2025. they have 6mil more listeners than a7x and 3mil more than slipknot even more surprisingly.

They're a fantastic band and their catalogue is frighteningly excellent. All of their releases have a great deal to offer.

Yes, even Gore is pretty damn good. I just wish it sounded better

They definitely don't have a straight-up bad album, but Gore is still pretty stale and boring imo lol.
