Anders can sound good. He just needs to stay within his range. And a lot of the issue is he just writes really awkward choruses (awkward lyrics, awkward melodies, awkward phrasing, too many words forced in iron maiden style)

A friend of mine is an audio engineer who's worked on stuff from pretty huge bands though and he said soilwork dude is super on point with his vocals in the studio

You pretty much lined up exactly why I think he's pretentious haha

I wouldn't use the pretentious, but it is def not my thing. No hate to Flug and everyone who enjoys this band, tho

anders has been bootleg jonathan davis starting from reroute to remain

Anders is forever ruined for me after someone pointed out that whiny gasp thing he lets out at the end of a lot of his verses

Yeah it's so unexpected lol. Every time I'm reminded that they are more American than Swedish now it makes me both laugh and cringe.

Many ppl say Lars from Scar Symmetry is shit at singing. Anders really brings a perspective to things
|

Anders really has had an insufferable singing voice for the longest time. I remember even on Come Clarity, as great as that album was, some of the clean vocals were like wtf

Good on him for being humble enough to go take singing lessons in early 2020s to fix a lot of it for this album.

Anders can be solid. Just tries to sing out of his natural range

He's best when he completely stays away from cleans

His cleans on clayman/colony are a fine example of anders cleans being exactly where they should be and sounding good as a result. Coerced coexistence and colony choruses from colony and Clayman title track and pinball map are the ones I'm thinking of. Basically, when used sparsely and within a small mid range lol
