Good lyrics elevate a song, but far too many lyrics in otherwise good songs are...not good. Most is just serviceable

I don't think lyricism is an easy thing. It is super subjective for starters. Second, the lyric primarily has meaning but it is also relevant rhythmically and relating to the structure of the song. Making you feel as you bop. Maximising and bringing these together needs multiple creative skills. Songs that achieve it all are rare and usually all time classics. Like shook ones pt 2

Being meaningful isn’t always even what they need to be. It’s entirely situational. Sometimes “good” lyrics are just good because they elevate and enhance the atmosphere or the purpose of the song, and sometimes the purpose of a song isn’t to be meaningful. Lyrics are the same as any other aspect of a song, it’s about how everything works together, and the focal point can be any number of things. They don’t have to be “deep” to be “good”, they literally just have to add to the song rather than detract from it.

fr people get way too caught up on 'good' lyrics having to be super wordy or complex or metaphorical, there's tons of wordy lyrics that just flat out suck (try any eminem wannabe of the last 15 years (and eminem himself since then too) rattling off random things that rhyme and have no unifying concept), and there's tons of lyrics that linguistically very simple but are either memorable or complement the vibe of the track perfectly

The lyrics to “sun” by caribou is a great example cuz it’s literally just “sun” 5000x and it’s perfect lol

the best lyrics can't make a song with bad music good, but bad lyrics can and will ruin otherwise great music

Check is not even good enough to be called an average rap song. It is well below average. In quality, production, sound, flow, lyrics. I just gave it a fair chance for you Colton but I just end up having more questions than answers.
