Those christmas songs have been out since last year already. I guess they were just only recently added to streaming services which is why they might be new to you.
Also while I enjoy this album, it is far from my favourite by them. I basically prefer all their other albums apart from Cope to this one.

Revisiting this album now as I put together my end of the year list and I really enjoy it. I remember almost every song and it's filled with so many powerful moments. I might even like it more than Black Mile...

Emotionally it doesn't hit as hard as Black Mile, but this is arguably better put together musically.

Billboard has crowned "Bed Head" as the fourth-biggest adult alternative hit of 2021, and the highest-ranking song on the year-end tally that never reached #1 on the weekly chart (it peaked at #3)
Very happy to see MO score such a huge hit, even if its success was largely confined to one format

The moment on 'Obstacle' when he sings "I don't want to lose control" and everything that follows it has become my favorite minute-ish of this entire album. Just so much emotion and power packed into such a brief passage.

The moment that always gets me is when he sings: "Where did you end when it was beginning?
Finalized, an immaculate ghost
There was only a moment to see
There was laughter in the cold"
Listened to this again earlier this week and i should probably rate it higher because there are few things to complain about on this record if any

Yeah I think the main thing that held this back for people at first was that it didn't have those knockout blows like ABMTTS did. The thing is, it actually does - they're just far more subtle.

Yeah this is def more subtle, and with the subject matter and themes behind this record it kinda makes sense it holds back a little. I remember early on i didnt really like the opener on this one, tho i dont mind it that much now i must confess i consider it perhaps the weakest track here

I actually really like the opener. The Iyrics are a bit laughable in the beginning but the scope of its sound is massive and the harmonies are gorgeous. Feels like The Maze on steroids. It's still not my favorite, but it's top 5 for sure (to me).

The Maze comparisons makes a lot of sense but i actually love The Maze not just as an opener but as a song on its own. Both the lyrics, melody and delivery and instrumentation on that one just feels much more fleshed out and complete to me
Keel Timing and Bedhead which were also songs i initially didnt like that much has grown on me but i still love the other songs a lot more but i wouldnt skip em either

To me, Keel Timing and Bed Head are sort of stylistic misfits. I enjoy them, but their bustling electronics feel a little bit out of place alongside the lush folk that comprises the majority of this.

bed head is the best song here by a mile imo

annie is close, actually

Oh no doubt that it's an incredible song, but it might have meshed better with a full album of more experimental songs. Part of me still wishes they would have pursued that sort of ambitious direction, but since the album ended up being beautiful anyway, I didn't care.

I love the lyrics to Annie. Some of the best of Hull's career.
