the only reason people like this record more than their last two is the duration of time from when they screamed is longer, and people can accept the change easier. They had no expectation of screaming, and now we can enjoy the music without the air of "will Opeth return to their roots?"

Yup love it Egarran.
Don't agree Skoj, at least not for me. I do not wish for them to go back to their metal roots.

Yeah totally disagree as well, this is just more engaging and fun to my ears than their last few.

Exactly. The fun is coming through again, and they try some more exciting new things.

I dont think people expected screams on sorceress either. If you did, you were several years out of the loop because akerfeldt hasn't exactly been shy about saying it wasnt happening anymore

Hard disagree as well, Skoj. I think its pretty clear this is far and away better than Sorceress, and at least better than PC.

Ooooooo Opeth are finally doing Opeth again!! (sorta)

Yeah, I like the comment about this being the spiritual successor to Watershed (think it was Sowing), as much as I did like Heritage that comparison makes a ton of sense to me.
Good to see the love for Universal Truth/Continuum, still my top 2. Followed by Garroter, then Heart in Hand. Lovelorn Crime is nice, but not quite sold on it as a standout yet.

Lovelorn Crime is a trap. People who like it will be rounded up and put in labor camps after the AI revolution.

I could agree, but then you appear to like Charlatan the most, which is quite baffling.

Is it really? I've only seen detractors here. I think all other reviews I've read like it.
But I know nothing about djent, apparently that's a factor.

Which reviews? I realise some people like it, not many (here) are listing it as a highlight though.

I google In Cauda Venenum review.
Turns out there a are a few other sites out there with reviews from this and they all seem to like Charlatan.

I'd gladly walk into that trap if it's so good. Love that track.
Then again, I love everything here. It's been ages since I could say that about new Opeth.

Yeah but it really does matter who’s writing those reviews, it still comes across as a bit of a novelty to me in a ‘look, we don’t do death metal anymore but here are some djent riffs instead, they sound heavy’ - in the context of the album it just sounds off. Of course I’m the expert and you should ignore all those reviewers.

Reviews are written by people and are therefore as subjective as anyone's opinion.
I skip Charlatan nowadays because it messes up the album flow for me. Universal and Continuum rule.

I keep forgetting the English titles of most of these tracks. But I think I agree about Universal Truth and Continuum Pika. I have a Swedish hunch.

We definitely think alike regarding this album Pika.

Universal, Continuum, and Dignity are my top 3

Some ok songs and some very solid ones on this album. Never thought Mikael would have enough inspiration left to release such a great song as Continuum.
