Still need to check this. How does it stack up against Pelagial in the opinion of the local Ocean connoisseurs?

It's definitely a little more cohesive from start to finish, even though Pelagial's journey downward wasn't by accident. More mid-paced songs, and since they're all longer, there's more of that post-metal feel where each has a beginning and a destination. The orchestral parts are brought back judiciously, though accentuated in places by electronic elements (which is actually a cool change) -- see the middle of Cambrian. Loic's voice is better implemented, and his cleans are stronger than ever, often combined with harsh vocals in the background. Permian has some gorgeous low-key moments of subtle vocal harmony and syncopated instrumental layers that sneak up on you and are more striking with each listen. Overall I think it's a little better than Pelagial; the best tracks on that album are Let Them Believe and Cognitive Dissonance, and I think Staps has taken that writing style and run with it here.

Cheers!
I gotta say that the comeback of the orchestral elements is a tad worrisome, seeing that's usually a bit of a turnoff for me. Will give it a shot.

I found this way way more accessible and easier to get into than Precambrian and Palagial

around ~6:30 on Cambrian II is unreal.
same for Age of Sea Scorpions. I haven't dug too deep into Precambrian and the first disk needs time for me but I think I like this more for now.

That line in The Great Dying, "I'm losing you to your fears"... Argh, gutting, hits home.
