“This is fine but do people not realize that The Jesus Lizard exists?”
That point would stand if Daughters and The Jesus Lizard were musically, tonally and aesthetically anything alike. The more spoken, rambling vocal style is the only real similarity and both Alexis Marshall and David Yow utilize them in different ways.

Yeah except he sounds exactly like David Yow hahaha. Also sounds like The Birthday Party and Godflesh boning at an open mic poetry slam. Don't be mad, you know it does.

@jesterhead92 you're telling me the bass tone on this record isn't straight up David Sims come on broooooo

I’m not mad, I’ve got no problem saying these guys are clearly influenced by industrial artists like Godesh or even Swans in their early days, and I have no doubt that the band are big fans of noise rock like The Jesus Lizard. But it’s not hard for me to appreciate Daughters’ work on its own despite the influences, and this album gives a more dense and creepy vibe that I don’t get from The Jesus Lizard, and the instrumentals are mostly in different ball parks.
Also yea Alexis and David do have similar vocal styles, but to me Dave has a more sneering and fun tone while Alexis comes off as more jittery and paranoid. There are definitely times when they cross into similar territory like Dave’s delivery on Seasick but again, it’s not hard for me to separate them due to the music being pretty drastically different.

I feel that. And I don't think this album is bad, just kinda makes me want to listen to JL haha.

TJL comparisons make more sense with the previous record but vocals aside they're pretty understated in this record for the most part, 'cept for the lords song which is definitely pretty tjl-y
Swans, This Heat, Foetus, even trilogy-era Scott Walker (in some spots) are more apt comparisons

I'm new to Daughters. Really loving what I'm hearing so far, but I think I like their self titled album a bit more.

S/T is more accessible for sure but I'm rather enjoying the weirdness of this one.

Really? I feel like this is their most accessible album honestly. But idk, they’re all weird.

Hell Songs is still my favorite for nostalgic reasons, and because it's insane. Actually, I can probably say the same thing about s/t at this point. Ten years down the line, this will likely be right there as well. And for the record, Daughters' sound is not completely original. They are The Jesus Lizard turned to 11 in every aspect, with sprinklings of Swans, The Birthday Party, This Heat and a spattering of some other noisy 80's & 90's bands. This is why they are good. This is why I like them. Let me in.

S/T reminds me even more of Jesus Lizard, minus the bass hooks.
